Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami
The Powder Blue Gourami (Trichopodus trichopterus), also known as the Blue Gourami, is a popular freshwater fish celebrated for its striking powder-blue coloration and peaceful temperament. Native to the warm, shallow waters of Southeast Asia, particularly in countries like Thailand and Indonesia, this species typically grows to about 3 to 4 inches (7.5 to 10 cm) in length.
Powder Blue Gouramis are characterized by their elongated, flattened bodies and vibrant blue hue, which can vary in intensity depending on the individual and tank conditions. They often display soft, flowing fins that enhance their graceful appearance.
These gouramis prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions, ideally between 75-82°F (24-28°C), and thrive in well-planted aquariums with plenty of hiding spots. They are generally peaceful and can be kept in community tanks, although males can become territorial, especially during breeding.
As omnivores, Powder Blue Gouramis benefit from a varied diet that includes high-quality flakes, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms. With proper care, they can live up to 5 years, adding beauty and tranquility to any freshwater aquarium.
