Pearl Danio
The pearl danio, Danio albolineatus, is a beautiful and peaceful freshwater fish native to Southeast Asia, particularly in Myanmar, Thailand, and Sumatra. Known for its delicate and iridescent appearance, the pearl danio typically grows to about 1.5 to 2 inches in length. Its slender body shimmers with hues of pink, blue, and silver, with a subtle pearlescent sheen that gives the species its name. A light horizontal line often runs along its body, enhancing its reflective look.
Pearl danios are social fish and do best in schools of at least five or more, where they display their natural schooling behavior. They are active swimmers, often darting around the mid-to-upper levels of the aquarium. Hardy and adaptable, pearl danios thrive in a variety of setups but prefer a well-maintained tank with plenty of open swimming space and areas for shelter. They do well in water temperatures ranging from 72-78°F and a pH range of 6.5-7.5.
As omnivores, pearl danios appreciate a varied diet that includes high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp. Their peaceful temperament, easy care requirements, and captivating iridescent colors make pearl danios a popular choice among aquarists, adding an elegant sparkle and lively movement to community tanks.
