Parkinson's Rainbowfish
The Parkinson's rainbowfish, Melanotaenia parkinsoni, is a striking and vibrant freshwater fish native to the clear streams and rivers of Papua New Guinea. Known for its remarkable coloration, this rainbowfish displays a silver to grayish-blue body, often highlighted by bright orange or yellow patches, especially on the fins and body edges. Males are particularly colorful, with flashes of vibrant orange or yellow that intensify during breeding, making them a standout addition to aquariums.
Parkinson's rainbowfish grow to about 4-5 inches in length and are best kept in groups of six or more to showcase their natural schooling behavior. They thrive in large, well-planted aquariums with ample swimming space, and ideal water conditions include temperatures of 74-82°F and a pH range of 6.5-7.5.
As omnivores, Parkinson's rainbowfish enjoy a varied diet that includes high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia. Their peaceful nature and stunning colors make Parkinson's rainbowfish a beautiful and harmonious addition to community tanks, adding dynamic movement and vibrant hues that enhance any aquarium setup.
