Nothobranchius guentheri Killifish
The Nothobranchius guentheri, or Guenther's Killifish, is a brilliantly colored freshwater species known for its resilience and adaptability to seasonal environments. Originating from East Africa, particularly in Tanzania and Kenya, this species typically grows to about 2 inches (5 cm) in length and is well-suited to smaller tanks.
Male Guenther’s Killifish are especially vibrant, with bright red or orange bodies adorned with blue or green speckling, while females are more muted in color. Their beauty and distinctive coloration make them highly sought-after by aquarists.
These fish thrive in slightly cooler, soft water, ideally between 70-75°F (21-24°C), and do best in tanks with a soft substrate and plenty of hiding spots. They are peaceful but are often kept in species-specific tanks due to their unique care requirements.
As carnivores, Guenther's Killifish prefer a diet of live or frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp. With a natural lifespan of about one year, they are an attractive and rewarding choice for those who appreciate colorful, seasonal fish species in their aquarium.
