Maculata Rasbora
The maculata rasbora, Boraras maculatus, also known as the dwarf spotted rasbora or pygmy rasbora, is a charming and tiny freshwater fish native to the slow-moving streams and peat swamps of Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia and Sumatra. Known for its small size (reaching only about 0.8-1 inch), this species features a pinkish body with distinctive dark spots and a reddish tint on its fins, giving it a delicate yet vibrant appearance.
Maculata rasboras are peaceful schooling fish, making them ideal for nano and community tanks with other gentle species. They thrive in well-planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots and soft, slightly acidic water, preferring temperatures between 72-82°F and a pH of 4.0-7.0. As omnivores, they enjoy a varied diet of high-quality micro-pellets, flakes, and occasional live or frozen foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp.
Their small size, attractive coloration, and peaceful nature make maculata rasboras a favorite among aquarists, especially for those looking to create a serene and natural environment in nano or planted tanks.
