Golden Wonder Killifish
The Golden Wonder Killifish (Aplocheilus lineatus) is a hardy and eye-catching freshwater fish known for its brilliant golden hue and striking appearance. Originating from South Asia, particularly in India and Sri Lanka, this species typically grows to about 3 to 4 inches (7.5 to 10 cm), making it suitable for medium-sized aquariums.
Golden Wonder Killifish are characterized by their elongated bodies, shimmering golden scales, and sometimes a hint of blue or green, with males being more vibrantly colored. They are surface dwellers, often found at the top of the aquarium, where their color and movement add brightness.
These fish thrive in warm water, ideally between 72-82°F (22-28°C), and prefer a tank with floating plants to mimic their natural habitat. They are generally peaceful but may prey on smaller tank mates, so they are best kept with fish of similar or larger size.
As omnivores, Golden Wonder Killifish enjoy a diet of high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms. With proper care, they can live for up to 3-5 years, bringing color and activity to any community tank.
