The Flame Gourami (Colisa lalia) is a stunning freshwater fish known for its vibrant colors and charming personality. Native to the warm waters of South Asia, particularly in India and Bangladesh, this species typically grows to about 2 to 3 inches (5 to 7.5 cm) in length.

Flame Gouramis are characterized by their bright red to orange coloration, often featuring iridescent blue or green highlights on their fins and body. Males are particularly vibrant, displaying more intense colors and elongated fins, especially during the breeding season, while females tend to be rounder and less colorful.

These gouramis thrive in warm, slightly acidic to neutral water conditions, ideally between 75-82°F (24-28°C). They prefer well-planted aquariums with plenty of hiding spots and open swimming areas. Flame Gouramis are generally peaceful and can be kept in community tanks, although males may exhibit territorial behavior during breeding.

As omnivores, Flame Gouramis enjoy a varied diet that includes high-quality flakes, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like daphnia and brine shrimp. With proper care, they can live for 4-5 years, making them a colorful and engaging addition to any freshwater aquarium.
