The firemouth cichlid, Thorichthys meeki, is a vibrant freshwater fish native to Central America, particularly found in rivers and lakes in Mexico and Guatemala. Known for its striking appearance, this species features a blue-green body with a bright orange or red patch on its throat and belly, which becomes more pronounced during mating displays and when agitated. Typically growing to about 4-6 inches, firemouth cichlids are relatively peaceful but can be territorial, especially during breeding.

They thrive in aquariums with plenty of hiding spots and prefer water temperatures between 75-82°F with a pH range of 6.5-8.0. Firemouth cichlids are omnivorous, enjoying a varied diet that includes high-quality pellets, live or frozen foods, and vegetables. Their vibrant colors, engaging behavior, and manageable size make them a popular choice among cichlid enthusiasts and community aquarists alike.
