Dragon Humpback Puffer
The Dragon Humpback Puffer is a unique and striking freshwater fish known for its distinctive humpbacked appearance and vibrant coloration. Native to the rivers of Southeast Asia, particularly around the Indonesian islands, this species can grow up to 12 inches (30 cm) in length, making it one of the larger pufferfish in the aquarium trade.
Dragon Humpback Puffers are characterized by their rounded bodies, large eyes, and a prominent hump on their back, which gives them a dragon-like look. Their coloration typically features a mix of greens, yellows, and browns, often adorned with intricate patterns. These fish are known for their intelligence and curious nature, making them captivating additions to aquariums.
They thrive in spacious tanks (at least 100 gallons) with plenty of hiding spots and swimming space. Dragon Humpback Puffers prefer warm, slightly brackish water, ideally between 75-82°F (24-28°C). As carnivores, their diet should consist of high-quality live or frozen foods, such as shrimp, snails, and fish.
With proper care, Dragon Humpback Puffers can live for up to 10 years. However, they can be territorial and may exhibit aggressive behavior, so it's important to carefully select tank mates or keep them in a species-specific setup. Their unique appearance and engaging personality make them a prized choice for experienced aquarium hobbyists.
