Cosby aka Opaline Gourami
The Cosby Gourami (Trichopodus microlepis), also known as the Blue Spotted Gourami, is a striking freshwater fish celebrated for its vivid coloration and peaceful nature. Native to the tropical waters of Southeast Asia, particularly in rivers and marshes, this species typically grows to about 3 to 4 inches (7.5 to 10 cm) in length.
Cosby Gouramis are distinguished by their unique appearance, featuring a bluish or greenish body adorned with bright blue spots and a round shape. Males often display more vibrant colors during breeding, showcasing their bright blue markings, while females are generally more subdued.
These gouramis thrive in warm water conditions, ideally between 75-82°F (24-28°C), and prefer well-planted aquariums with plenty of hiding spots. They are peaceful and social fish, making them ideal for community tanks, although males may exhibit territorial behavior during mating.
As omnivores, Cosby Gouramis enjoy a varied diet that includes high-quality flakes, small pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and daphnia. With proper care, they can live up to 4-5 years, adding color and charm to any freshwater aquarium.
